My buddy Bob just called from his new home in California. He is settling in to a new job and new apartment with his family. I was surprised that he did not sound tired or frazzled. When I asked him what the reason was for his calm, happy attitude he told me it was because his job had paid for him to use corporate relocation from Chicago to California. I had never heard of that before so I asked him to elaborate. He says that because his job was initiating the transfer to a new state, they assisted him in the big move. The corporate relocation folks helped him sell his house here in Chicago and buy a new one in California; he just told them what he and his wife wanted in a new home and the relocation service found him one near his new job. They helped with all the details of the purchase as well. They helped find schools for his kids nearby and assisted Bob with the new student registration process.
His wife Julie had to wait behind for a couple of weeks while finishing up her job assignments here, but the relocation folks helped her to move when she left as well! The corporate relocation in Chicago even helped them locate a bank, grocery store, and dry cleaners near their new home so they were all ready to go when they got to their new neighborhood. I told him that if I ever transfer out there to join him, I will definitely use relocation services. They made what could have been a very stressful cross country move very easy on my friend.
